For the past few weeks, Nick Suzuki's name has been circulating among experts to become the next captain of the Canadiens.
The forward has been playing his best field hockey since Martin St-Louis arrived behind the bench and fans are starting to appreciate his leadership skills on the ice.
But not all experts see Suzuki succeeding Shea Weber as captain. As reported by my colleague Christian Matte of Marqueur.com, Habs game analyst at 98.5 Sports Dany Dubé has found his new captain in defenseman Joel Edmundson.
That's what he said Saturday night after the Habs' win over the Tampa Bay Lightning (and he reiterated it in the matchup against the Sens).
"I think Edmundson is a good leader. If you're looking for a captain, I think Joel Edmundson, he's the guy who looks the most like a captain on the ice.
The kind of captain you need in Montreal is a bit of a unifier, a player that has an impact that is unquestionable, that brings everyone together and that everyone agrees on, Joel Edmundson represents that right now."
Back in action since March 12, he has brought some stability back to the left side of the defense and should he be named team captain, he would prove to be a valuable mentor to the organization's young defensemen. With the likely departure of Jeff Petry this summer, Edmundson would become the veteran of the Habs' defensive squad.
