We were all waiting for this news with great impatience, and well it is now confirmed and official: Martin St-Louis becomes the 32nd head coach in the history of the Montreal Canadiens.

Kent Hughes had announced his intentions at the end of the season, and he kept his word.

The Habs issued a press release this morning announcing that Martin St-Louis has accepted a three-year contract extension with the Montreal Canadiens until the end of the 2024-2025 season.

By losing his interim title, he officially becomes the 32nd head coach in the history of the franchise.

"Martin has undeniable leadership qualities in addition to being an excellent communicator and a field hockey enthusiast. He has a wealth of experience and a very deep understanding of our game. His arrival at the helm of the team has brought a new energy to our group and we are excited for him to continue to guide our team in the years to come." - Kent Hughes

This contract extension means Kent Hughes can focus on the draft and standalone players.

Please note that Martin St. Louis will address the media later today, for the first time ever as the official head coach of the Montreal Canadiens.
