In the last few seconds, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has announced that defenseman Jeff Petry has received the maximum fine ($5,000) for his action against Detroit Red Wings youngster Jonatan Berggren.
In his very first game in a Penguins uniform, Petry is getting noticed, but not necessarily for the right reasons.
In this game, Petry had zero points, two penalty minutes, two shots on goal, and a turnover in 21:07. (his playing time)
Here's what Petry had to say after the game regarding the punch:
"I was just trying to push the top of shoulder to knock him off balance. It grazed off the top of his shoulder and went up. I wasn't trying to punch him in the back of the head or anything like that."
