Antoine Roussel is leaving the Vancouver Canucks to join André Tourigny on the Arizona Coyotes' side in a monster deal involving Oliver Ekman-Larsson, among others. Wow!

The complete transaction reads as follows:
Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland in return for Roussel, Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson and 2nd and 7th round picks in 2022. The Coyotes will retain $1.25 million per season of OEL's salary.
So this monster trade will save the 'Yotes $7 million (they have to withhold $1.25 million) for six years on payroll in addition to the future deal Garland (RFA) will sign, who should get a nice raise after closing out 2021 with a minimal impact on payroll at $775,000.
In the end, the Coyotes inherit big short-term contracts in Loui Eriksson ($6 million/1 year), Antoine Roussel ($3 million/1 year) and Jay Beagle ($3 million/1 year). In the case of OEL, he has an average salary of $8.25 million through July 1, 2027. As for Garland, he could certainly sign a mid-term deal that could be between $2.5 and $3.5 million following a great season (39 points in 49 games).
In short, the Coyotes like to receive heavy contracts with little time left on the contract, as this strategy allows them to pick up good draft picks for tonight's draft (8 p.m.).
