On Sunday, in the CH's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, Kirby Dach scored his 8th goal of the season. He is now one goal away from tying his career high set last season.
This goal also allows the young forward to reach 27 points this season, and to have his most productive season since he entered the league. Last year, the forward had 26 points in 70 games. He broke that record in 26 fewer games.
This is great news for Dach and it's really encouraging.
We say it all the time with young players, but patience is the key. Dach started his NHL career very early, at only 18 years old, and it took three full seasons before he was at his best. We must also not forget his major injury in his first season which also slowed down his learning curve.
Speaking of patience, one of the best scorers in the league, Tage Thompson, took almost 4 seasons to become the player he is now. In his fourth campaign in the league, he had 14 points in 38 games before breaking out the next season with 68 points in 78 games.
Without comparing Dach to Thompson, because we don't know how he will develop, the Sabres' forward is proof that you have to be patient, something the Blackhawks will not have been with the CH's new number 77. They may regret it sooner than later...
Kirby Dach began his NHL career at the age of 18.
He didn't break anything in his first season. Nor in his second (injury). Nor in his third. As usual, many have called him a flop.
Now he's on his way to a 50-point season.
He's 21 years old.
PATIENCE.
