After winning the Stanley Cup, Joe Sakic has just completed a trade with the Coyotes

It seems like a long time ago that the Colorado Avalanche's starting goaltender was Philipp Grubauer, before he finally decided to sign with the Seattle Kraken (6-year contract worth $5.9 million annually).

Last summer, Avalanche GM Joe Sakic went back to the Arizona Coyotes and completed a major trade to make up for the loss.

On July 28, 2021, the Coyotes sent goaltender Darcy Kuemper to Colorado in exchange for young defenseman Conor Timmins, a first round pick in 2022 and a conditional third round pick in 2024.

The condition on that last pick? If Colorado won the Stanley Cup in 2021-22 (which you know they did) and Kuemper played in at least 50% of the playoff games (which they did), the Coyotes would receive the pick.

So, as a result of this trade, the Coyotes will be drafting 32nd overall this year and with yesterday's result, they also get the third round pick in 2024 from Colorado.

By winning the Stanley Cup, Joe Sakic completes his trade with the Coyotes and loses a third round pick. I'm told he'll be happy to give up a third round pick after winning the Cup.
