The countdown has begun, as we are less than 24 hours away from the NHL trade deadline. Several transactions have been completed in the last few hours and others will be announced.

But here, what we are interested in is to know if Kent Hughes will be active by tomorrow at 3pm. After having traded Ben Chiarot and Tyler Toffoli since his arrival as general manager of the Habs, it could well be that he can conclude another one in the next few hours.

According to Michael Russo, who covers the Minnesota Wild, a deal involving Jack McBain is close to being completed and the Habs are among the favourites to get the 22-year-old, who does not want to make a deal with the Wild.

McBain was a third round pick of the Wild in 2018 and is coming off a great season with Boston College, where he scored a total of 19 goals in just 24 games.

Wild general manager Bill Guerin is in buyer's mode, as his team is in a great position for the playoffs and he has already shown his colors by adding Nicolas Deslauriers to his team.

Could Artturi Lehkonen be involved?

It's quite possible, as his name has been linked to the Wild over the past few weeks.

A big thanks to Jeff Drouin, of the Fanadiens site, for the info.
