In the last few hours, the Washington Capitals released a sad official statement. The kind of announcement that Alex Ovechkin and the fans could have done without.

"Very long road ahead for Backstrom, who, as he hinted, may not be able to return to the NHL. This could really be the end for him.

Ryan Kesler had the surgery in 2019 and never played again.

Ed Jovanovski was the first to do so in 2013. It took him a full year to rehab, played 37 games and retired." - Frank Seravalli




The Caps did announce some very bad news regarding the health of center Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin's lifelong sidekick.

Forward Backstrom underwent left hip resurfacing surgery on Friday. The surgery was performed at the ANCA clinic in Belgium.

Backstrom will begin his rehabilitation and long recovery process immediately.

He is not expected to play next season and unfortunately his career may be over. Ayoye...
