About two weeks ago, a player who played more than 60 games with the Rocket (and 38 with the Montreal Canadiens) decided to leave the Habs organization.
Quebec forward Laurent Dauphin has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Arizona Coyotes.
Dauphin, a 27-year-old from Repentigny, had 12 points in 38 games with the CH in 2021-22. (plus 16 points and 11 goals in 18 games with the Laval Rocket)
He was acquired from the Nashville Preds in 2020 for Michael McCarron in a one-for-one trade.
To explain his decision, as reported by Marco Normandin, Dauphin was just recently on 91.9 Sports and gave a generous and interesting interview.
Laurent Dauphin revealed that Kent Hughes and the Canadiens offered him a contract very similar to the one he accepted with the Coyotes (they tried to keep him in Montreal), but he decided to return to Arizona for a specific reason:
It's a shame for Montreal, but it's certainly understandable.
With this famous contract in question, if he plays in the NHL, he will earn a salary of $750,000, but if he plays in the AHL, he will still earn a guaranteed salary of $400,000.
