Career about to end? Marc-André Fleury's major last-minute statement
Just a few months shy of his 39th birthday, the beloved Quebec goaltender, Marc-André Fleury, agreed to give a very interesting interview to journalist Alex Antonacci of RDS.
Firstly, it's important to note that Fleury will be in his final contract year next season. When questioned on this, he dropped a significant statement (and one that already makes us nostalgic):
"This could also be my last year. I'm going to try to enjoy it as much as possible." - Marc-André Fleury
We knew it was coming, but next year could indeed be the last season for the great Marc-André Fleury in the National Hockey League.
Fleury also had this to say following the Stanley Cup victory of the Vegas Golden Knights.
"I was happy for the players, happy for the guys I played with, especially the guys from the beginning. Our Quebecers too; [Nicolas] Roy, [William] Carrier, and [Jonathan] Marchessault. But on the other hand, it's disappointing to have missed that moment. To have started with the team and that, two years after I left, they won, it's a shame."
A truly sincere statement from a true professional. He stayed far away from the usual cliches.
Fleury, 38, is still more than capable of performing. He maintained an average of 2.85 and a save percentage of 0.908 last season in Minnesota (24 wins and 16 losses).
