Unfortunately, it didn't take too long, but forward Pierre-Luc Dubois is already causing discontent among his new fans.
When a player goes through a very difficult phase and points don't come, it's frustrating but it happens to everyone.
We saw this notably here with the Montreal Canadiens' Josh Anderson. However, in his case, it was evident that he was working very hard to get out of the slump and to be useful regardless. The same goes for Brendan Gallagher.
This is the problem with Dubois.
Many fans are denouncing his lack of interest and effort.
A Contract Buyout Demanded for Dubois
"Dubois gets stripped in 3-on-3 OT and makes almost no effort whatsoever to attempt to win the puck back.
Fuck this guy. Get out of this contract while you still can, Blake.
That's 6 in a row."
Unfortunately, there are hundreds and hundreds of comments like these.
"Some fun stats for everyone at the end of the night:
9/12 of Winnipeg's starting forwards have scored as many or more goals than Pierre Luc Dubois (7) this season.
0/12 of them are paid more than him."
The «Pierre Luc Dubois has been waived for the purposes of terminating his contract» tweet is gonna hit like a freight train.
Others suggest a trade involving Pierre-Luc Dubois and Jonathan Huberdeau. In short, he needs to get a grip.
That said, it's still way too early to talk about a contract buyout in his case. The Kings will never do that, at least not in the short term.
Dubois has plenty of time to get back on track.
Moreover, it would have impacts for them until 2038. (1.1 million from 2031 to 2038 and between 1.5 million and 3.8 million per year from 2024 to 2031)
Dubois, 25 years old, was traded this summer for Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, and a 2nd round pick in 2024. He has 16 points in 37 games this season with the Kings.
