Trade between the Canadiens and the Oilers: an unexpected proposal has recently come to light
In recent days, the name of Joel Edmundson has started to resurface in trade rumors, and one of the teams that seems to be seriously interested are the Edmonton Oilers.
He would be a perfect addition to their defensive brigade and, above all, to their young locker room. In fact, according to respected David Pagnotta, the three teams favored to acquire Edmundson are the Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken.
Knowing this, an interesting trade proposal has surfaced involving the Montreal Canadiens and Oilers. Let's remember that one of Edmonton's main goals for General Manager during the offseason was to trading away Kailer Yamamoto's contract. He could thus achieve two objectives with the following trade:
TO MONTREAL:
- Kailer Yamamoto
- 2024 1st round pick (protected by Oilers)
TO EDMONTON:
- Joel Edmundson
- 2023 Vegas' 4th round pick
Young Yamamoto, despite his great potential, has a value of zero or even negative due to his contract.
Edmundson, 29-years-old, is a 6 feet 5 inches and 221 lbs defenceman. He has earned 13 points in 61 games this season with a differential of -29. Furthermore, he has been making 3.5 million dollars per season until 2024.
Yamamoto, 24-years-old, is a 5 feet 8 inches and 153 pound forward. He has 118 career points in the NHL (50 goals) and he earns 3.1 million dollars per season until 2024.
