Bettman and the NHL will finally have an answer this week on the Coyotes relocation plans according to all indications
The saga of the Arizona Coyotes is incredibly getting annoying for hockey fans. It is incomprehensible that the league accepts that this NHL team plays in an arena that has a capacity of only 5000 fans! EMBARRASSING
Over the past few months, the owner of the organization, Alex Meruelo, has faced several rejections regarding his new arena projects. However, this could change this week as the Coyotes' bid to purchase land north of Phoenix will be reviewed by state authorities in the coming days.
The Arizona State Land Department Board of Appeals will thus render its verdict by March 14 regarding the Coyotes' project. The state could also choose to auction off the land, an event that would take place in about ten weeks.
"JUST IN Arizona Coyotes' application for 95 acres of state land for new arena will be taken up Thursday by Arizona Land Department Board of Appeals. Board could approve land auction."
This issue must be resolved sooner rather than later as frustration is beginning to be felt around the league. At the last All-Star game, Marty Walsh, the executive director of the NHL Players' Association (NHLPA), strongly criticized the league.
"How long will they wait before having a home? They are currently playing in a college arena and they are the second tenants. This is not how you run a business"
"We have a team in Arizona that does not seem interested in its discussions with the union, which represents the players playing for them. [...] This is unacceptable for the members of this team and the players across the league" - Marty Walsh
