The excellent journalist Jeff Marek, formerly of Sportsnet, has just reported some interesting information involving the Dallas Stars and the Montreal Canadiens.
Considering
Jason Robertson's name has been heavily circulating in trade rumors, there's reason to believe that Robertson may have been involved in those discussions.
Does that mean Kent Hughes prioritized acquiring Noah Dobson over acquiring Jason Robertson?
Jeff Marek: "I want to say Dallas was probably, and this probably extends back into the season, in the conversation for Noah Dobson."

Dallas really wanted to land Dobson!
In the end, as you know, it was Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens who won this derby.
The Dallas Stars Submitted Strong Trade Offers for Defenseman Noah Dobson
Personally, I also believe that building a winning team starts with the defensive corps, so for now, I absolutely think it was the right move for the Canadiens to acquire Noah Dobson instead of a high-profile forward like Jason Robertson.
Noah Dobson, age 25, is a 6-foot-3 defenseman and was selected 12th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
He recorded 39 points in 71 games this season and 70 points in 79 games the season before.
Jason Robertson, also 25 years old, is a 6-foot-3 winger who was selected 39th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
He tallied 80 points in 82 games this season, matching his 80 points in 82 games last season (and 109 points in 82 games in 2022-23).
