We've had some action on the NHL waiver wire in the last few minutes - and two players are now available for free to the Montreal Canadiens.
First, the Calgary Flames have placed forward
Justin Kirkland on waivers, and second, the New York Rangers have done the same with goaltender Spencer Martin, who seems to be every team's favorite third-string goalie in the NHL.
I say that jokingly, but it's pretty much true...
Every time Martin hits waivers, he gets claimed somewhere and becomes the new team's number-three goalie - every single time.
Here's the confirmation from insider Elliotte Friedman:
"Kirkland (CAL) & Spencer Martin (NYR) on waivers"
- Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet
Two players placed on NHL waivers - if ever Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are interested
"New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Spencer Martin on a two-year contract."
- New York Rangers
However following the signing, the Rangers placed him on waivers:
"Rangers have signed goalie Spencer Martin to a two-year deal. No injuries to worry about here. Just a veteran depth piece. He's been placed on waivers and will be assigned to AHL Hartford if he clears."
- Vince Z. Mercogliano
Spencer Martin, 30, is a 6-foot-3, 191-pound goaltender who was a third-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2013.
He has appeared in 66 career NHL games, posting a 24-30-8 record with a 3.56 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage.
In recent years, he's suited up for the New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Vancouver Canucks - all since 2022!
Justin Kirkland, 29, is a 6-foot-3, 183-pound forward who was a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2014.
He recorded eight points in 21 games with the Calgary Flames last season.
Do you think either of them will be claimed?
