Things are shaking up today in the National Hockey League, with a trade completed and two offer sheets submitted.
Just seconds after completing a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins:
The St. Louis Blues have now submitted not one, but two offer sheets!
Must read on HabsFanatics
It turns out that two Edmonton Oilers players have signed offer sheets with Blues GM Doug Armstrong.
First, it was announced that the Blues had submitted an offer to defenseman Broberg, but now we learn that another offer sheet has also been submitted for an offensive player.
"We have submitted offers to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway of Edmonton."
- St. Louis Blues
We're talking about a $4.5 million offer for 2 years to Philip Broberg (with a second-round pick as compensation) and a $2.29 million offer for 2 years to Dylan Holloway (with a third-round pick as compensation).
Philip Broberg: 2 x $4,580,917 (compensation = 2nd)
Dylan Holloway: 2 x $2,290,457 (compensation = 3rd)
The Oilers have 7 days to match these offer sheets.
This is a brilliant move by St. Louis because Edmonton is currently already over the NHL salary cap.
They are nearly $400,000 over the cap, so I really wonder how they will be able to match these offers and avoid losing two solid young players.
Broberg, 23, was the 8th overall pick by the Oilers in 2019 (1st round).
Holloway, 22, was the 14th overall pick by the Oilers in 2020 (1st round).
