Trade rumours: Insider links Shane Wright to the Canadiens and a few other teams
Here is a very interesting rumor that has surfaced in the NHL trade market, a rumor involving Shane Wright.
According to the reputable informant David Pagnotta, teams are going to try to acquire Shane Wright by the 2024 draft.
Recall that during the famous 2022 draft in Montreal, when many Canadiens fans really wanted Shane Wright, the selection of Juraj Slafkovsky ultimately turned out to be a home run.
What if Kent Hughes managed to reunite the two?
Personally, I don't necessarily believe it, but the fact remains that Montreal wants to acquire a young top-6 forward, and moreover, the Canadiens' management knows Shane Wright very well.
A trade involving Shane Wright for the Seattle Kraken?
Pagnotta mentions that teams indeed have him in their sights, anyway.
«Two years ago, many people expected to see Shane Wright become a member of the Canadiens. The Montreal team held the first draft pick, and Wright was at the top of many lists. [...]
David Pagnotta mentions an interesting piece of information: there are NHL teams that would like to get their hands on Shane Wright in a trade, and even if the calls haven't been made yet, they intend to do so shortly.»

So this will be a case to watch in the NHL.
The story does not say, for now, if Kent Hughes is one of those interested teams, but we imagine he is focusing on the Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas cases for now.
We should also mention that Pagnotta specifies that the general manager of the Seattle Kraken is not necessarily keen on trading Wright.
Shane Wright, who was ultimately a 4th overall pick in 2022, is 20 years old and has amassed 47 points in 59 games this season in the AHL, with the Kraken's farm team. (plus 5 points in 6 AHL playoff games)
In his NHL career, he has so far accumulated 7 points in 16 games.
So it could be a new option for the Canadiens in the trade market.
