Revisiting a Failed Trade Between the Canadiens and Kings That Nearly Cost the Habs Nick Suzuki

Marco D'Amico just revealed a big one about a nearly finalized trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings involving former Habs captain Max Pacioretty.
It could have completely changed the future of the Habs. In an interview with the team at HFTV, D'Amico confirmed that a trade between the Canadiens and Kings fell through at the very last second - and it's a huge revelation for fans.
Good thing that trade collapsed!
The Montreal Canadiens really have Max Pacioretty to thank for the acquisition of Nick Suzuki
It's not a new story, but the information itself is new!
Here's what D'Amico said about it:
"Marc Bergevin almost traded Max Pacioretty for a first-round pick and Jake Muzzin at the [2018] NHL Draft.
I was ready to report the trade, and then I got a message saying:
'It fell through at the last second!'
Max Pacioretty didn't want to sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings."

Wow! So, if Pacioretty had agreed to sign a new contract with the Kings, the trade would have gone through and been finalized.

As you all know, just a few weeks later, Pacioretty was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki, and a 2019 second-round pick.
Imagine if Pacioretty had agreed to sign that extension with the Kings.. the Canadiens would have never acquired Nick Suzuki!
Jake Muzzin has only played four games since the 2021-22 season and is no longer an NHL player.
Also worth noting that the 2018 first-round pick from the Kings turned into the 20th overall pick (Rasmus Kupari).
What a story!
