Before his trade to the Montreal Canadiens, Laine was indeed involved in a deal between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to information from the excellent Maxime Truman of DansLesCoulisses, Laine had been traded in another deal before the one to Montreal (as many rumors suggested), and now we learn that it was to Philadelphia.
Here are the details.
So, Laine had been traded to Philadelphia in exchange for forward Ryan Johansen, but he used his no-trade clause to nullify the entire deal.
We know what happened next, and we love what happened next.
Laine was eventually traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Montreal Canadiens, along with a second-round pick, in exchange for defenseman Jordan Harris.
Kudos to Daniel Brière, the general manager of Philadelphia, for attempting the move because Laine is definitely worth it.
It would have been a big move on his part.
Let's also recall that there is currently a dispute between Ryan Johansen and the Flyers, as he has been placed on NHL waivers to terminate his contract.
