The New York Islanders are off to a tough start this season, placing them at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, a disappointing result for Patrick Roy.

Despite having the goalie duo of Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov, the team is struggling to score, ranking 27th in the NHL for goals.
According to journalist Jim Biringer, the organization may consider major changes if the situation does not improve.
General Manager Lou Lamoriello is at the center of these discussions, with some members of the organization having already called for his departure before the season.
However, he retained his position by leading the Islanders to the playoffs.
Another factor to watch is the situation with forward Brock Nelson.
With 10 goals in 25 games this season and previous campaigns with 37, 36, and 34 goals, Nelson will become a free agent this summer.
If he is placed on the market, he could become one of the most sought-after targets at the trade deadline.
However, the cost to acquire him is expected to be high.

Brock Nelson, a Target for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens?

The possibility of Kent Hughes, General Manager of the Canadiens, being interested in Nelson raises questions, especially if Montreal is looking to strengthen its offense.
The Islanders' performance against the Canadiens during their visit to the Bell Centre on Tuesday night could also provide clues about the future of certain players.
With declining performances, high expectations, and an organization at a crossroads, the next few months will be critical for the New York Islanders.
As a second-line center to take on the role Sean Monahan previously held with the Canadiens, Nelson could be a very interesting option.
