The excellent Dennis Bernstein has just revealed what Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens would likely receive in return for defenseman David Savard.
As Savard's name resurfaces on the trade market, due to his expiring contract and the team's rough start to the season, it seems his value has remained intact.
This is obviously good news, but at the same time, I'm not sure if trading David Savard would necessarily be a good thing.
Kent Hughes could still fetch a first-round draft pick
See what the TFP expert had to say.
«If Kent Hughes waits for the right moment, he should receive a first-round draft pick. Some teams believe a veteran like David Savard is the final piece they need to build a Cup-contending team.
A very reliable right-shot defenseman, who blocks shots, plays physically»
- Dennis Bernstein, who adds that Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak would need to play well for about thirty games if Kent Hughes hopes to trade them elsewhere as well. So, this will be a story to follow closely. Listening to the experts, we understand that Kent Hughes is active and wants to make trades, but also realizes that patience will be key in some cases (especially on defense).

And if you were the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, what would you do? Would you trade David Savard for a first-round pick?
He hasn't had the best start to the season; he seems to have slowed down a bit, but he brings such stability and a major presence for the young players.
It's certainly something to think about.
