The excellent journalist David Pagnotta, who has solid NHL sources and works for TFP, had some news regarding the Montreal Canadiens.
With
Alexandre Carrier seemingly ready to replace Savard in Montreal, and as
Connor McDavid's team continues to search for a reliable veteran defenseman, here's what the insider just mentioned:
Several defensemen are linked to the Oilers, including Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard, Anaheim Ducks defenseman
Brian Dumoulin, and Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman
Ivan Provorov. Savard is a right-handed shot, while Provorov can play both sides.

Let's not forget that Savard's contract expires at the end of the season, leaving Kent Hughes with three options:
1: Keep David Savard and risk losing him for nothing this summer.
2: Trade David Savard before the trade deadline.
3: Sign a contract extension with David Savard.
This will be a major storyline to follow in the coming weeks, but the Oilers are clearly still interested in acquiring him.
It's worth noting that Savard is currently sidelined after missing back to back games against the Chicago Blackhawks and the Colorado Avalanche. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be too serious.
Savard, 34, has 10 points in 35 games this season, with a +1 rating and 22 penalty minutes. However, his impact on a game and within a team goes far beyond the stats.
