The general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, attempted to finalize a major trade with the San Jose Sharks.

According to reputable TSN insider Darren Dreger, the Canadiens indeed tried to make a deal for tonight's 14th overall pick.

It is understood that following the failed trade with the Sharks, Kent Hughes quickly adjusted and finalized the trade announced earlier today with the Los Angeles Kings.

Ultimately, it's worth noting that the 14th overall pick was traded to the Buffalo Sabres (along with the 42nd overall pick) in exchange for the 11th pick of 2024.
