Former NHLer would be willing to sacrifice Cole Caufield to acquire Martin Necas
Regarding the famous trade proposal involving Cole Caufield and Martin Necas between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes, there are new developments.
We know that Kent Hughes is interested in Martin Necas, we know that he has called Carolina about him, but we also know that the asking price is substantial in exchange for the young Necas.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Hurricanes want a high-level player in return for Necas, not prospects or draft picks.
Therefore, we do not believe there is a potential "match" between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes for such a trade, but not everyone agrees.

Personally, I wouldn't trade Caufield at all, but I'm starting to question myself because of the numerous experts suddenly talking about trading him. Why trade Caufield?
In any case, I believe that Kent Hughes would have nothing to gain by trading a player like Cole Caufield, and if he did, I think he should ask for more than Martin Necas. (like a Mitch Marner)
Cole Caufield, 23 years old, 5 feet 8 inches and 175 pounds, amassed 65 points in 82 games this season, including 28 goals.
He is signed at $7.85 million per season until 2031.
