Caufield, 23 years old, has 32 points in 34 games this season, after recording 65 points and 36 points (in 46 games) in the last two seasons.
Montreal's top-six forward lines would be lethal with a one-two punch of Suzuki and Pettersson down the middle if a trade of this magnitude were to happen.
