A major trade proposal involving Slafkovsky goes viral for the wrong reasons
A major trade proposal involving Juraj Slafkovsky, submitted by Georges Laraque several months ago, has resurfaced.
In the aftermath of the trade sending Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washington Capitals in exchange for veteran goalie Darcy Kuemper, some trade proposals from that time are coming back into the spotlight.
This is particularly the case for an offer suggested by none other than Georges Laraque.
A Trade Involving Juraj Slafkovsky and Pierre-Luc Dubois?
Here is the statement in question.
Indeed, it hasn't aged very well, but let's still applaud the boldness of Georges Laraque, who isn't afraid to throw out concrete ideas like this.
Clearly, fans appreciate this, as he masterfully leads the sports show that is probably the most popular in Quebec. However, let's say that this statement was not Laraque's best.
"Georges Laraque from BPM Sports, guesting on Tony Marinaro's podcast in February 2023, loudly proclaimed that the Canadiens should offer Juraj Slafkovsky along with other assets to the Winnipeg Jets to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois."
- Marco Normandin
Here is his exact statement.
"Juraj Slafkovsky is a project but he will never be a Top-6 player in my opinion. I would use him in a package to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois, who would become the first Francophone star in Montreal since José Théodore."
- Georges Laraque
Laraque has made strong statements over the years, and he has proposed excellent trades, but this one is an exception.
Let's put this in the "bloopers" category and hope that Pierre-Luc Dubois can revive his career in Washington. He certainly has the talent to do it, without a doubt.
Laraque is definitely not the only analyst who would have made this trade at the time, as Pierre-Luc Dubois had just amassed 63 points, and Juraj Slafkovsky had 10 points.
This proves once again how much we need to be patient with young players.
