The young Calum Ritchie traded to the Montreal Canadiens by the Colorado Avalanche? This is what has just been suggested by an observer
Now that Elias Lindholm has been traded to the Vancouver Canucks and is no longer available, all eyes turn to Sean Monahan and the Montreal Canadiens.
He becomes the #1 target of many clubs on the trade market, even though he will be a free agent next summer.
It should not be ruled out that Monahan could be traded for a high price by the Canadiens by the deadline, and that he could return to Montreal as a free agent this summer.
A trade proposal between the Canadiens and the Avalanche from Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
It's always interesting to analyze concrete trade proposals, and here is a good one.
«Sean Monahan goes to Colorado in return for Calum Ritchie.
The Avalanche will undoubtedly look to improve their center line by March 8 since Ross Colton is currently playing the role of 2nd center. Colton is not a bad hockey player, but he is probably not the prototype of the 2nd center you want to aspire to great honors.» - Via DLC We know that the Avalanche have been interested in Monahan for a while, but would their management be willing to let the young Ritchie go?
That's the question, but it could definitely be an interesting catch for Kent Hughes.
Ritchie, 19 years old, is a 6 foot 2 inches center who was drafted 27th overall by the Avalanche in 2023 (first round). Several experts even saw him potentially being drafted top 15!
He has accumulated 47 points, including 16 goals, in 28 games this season in the OHL and he is developing very well so far.
Would you make this "1 for 1" trade?
It's certain that Ritchie is more advanced in his development, compared to a 2024 or 2025 first-round pick that Kent Hughes could also acquire elsewhere.
