Significant trade concluded between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals: Joel Edmundson's statement
Defenseman Joel Edmundson just made some interesting statements related to the significant trade concluded between the Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals over the past weekend.
In the last few minutes, he broke his silence for the first time since the official announcement.
"Joel Edmundson says being traded by the Canadiens didn't surprise him: 'This summer, I had a feeling that something might happen with the way the Montreal team was shaping up; they want to become young, they want to build something there...'" - Via Priyanta Emrith
Edmundson really would have liked to stay in Montreal, but he understands the decision of executives Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
He added this:
"Joel Edmundson says he appreciates that the Canadiens' general manager, Kent Hughes, was open and honest with him about how the Tricolore envisioned his future within the organization from the trade deadline.
Hughes told Edmundson that they would trade him if the price was right." - Via Priyanta Emrith
Interesting. Hughes was very transparent with "Eddy" and mentioned to him that he would trade him at the right price, and that's what he did.
So it's been brewing for a while.
In the end, Joel Edmundson was traded to the Washington Capitals for draft picks (3rd round choice, 7th round choice, and the Habs retained 50% of Edmundson's salary in the trade).
Edmundson, 30, had another year left on his contract worth 3.5 million dollars annually.
Now that he will have the chance to play for a team aiming for the playoffs, we wish him success for the rest of his career in Washington!
Thank you for everything, Eddy!
