Major Trade Proposal Received by the Canadiens: The Predators' True Target Revealed, and It's Quite a Surprise"
A big piece of news was revealed a few hours after the 2023 NHL Draft, but the Nashville Preds went all in and made a major trade offer to the Montreal Canadiens to try to acquire the 5th overall pick.
According to various sources, the trade offer notably included young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov as well as the 15th overall pick from the Preds.
New twist in this case
In the past few hours, the excellent Nicolas Cloutier, from TVA Sports, published a solid report, in which we learn new very interesting information related to this trade offer.
See the excerpt in question:
It is known that the Nashville Predators went all out to move up to the fifth rank. General Manager Barry Trotz wanted to make a big splash in front of his fans at the Bridgestone Arena by making a transaction with Kent Hughes.
Many were those who believed that Michkov was at the heart of these efforts put forth by the Predators. However...
"It was for David Reinbacher that the Predators wanted to move up," our inside source confirmed.
- Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports Wow! That's quite a revelation. Let's just say the choice of the Montreal Canadiens and their leaders is becoming more and more clear.
The vast majority of experts took for granted that the Preds wanted Matvei Michkov, but apparently, it was indeed David Reinbacher they absolutely wanted and saw a huge potential in.
They were willing to pay a lot to get him.
We love it.
Interestingly, it seems that there was possibly not a clear top-4, but rather a clear top-5 in this 2023 NHL Draft. And Kent Hughes had the perfect platform to get his hands on Reinbacher, the best defender of the selection session.
It seems that the Montreal Canadiens made a solid choice and that several other teams would have done the same.
