A very surprising trade proposal has surfaced involving the Montreal Canadiens and the Arizona Coyotes
We are among those who sincerely believe that Brendan Gallagher still holds value for an NHL team, especially a competitive one. However, a surprising trade offer has recently surfaced.
According to many, Kent Hughes should explore ways to unload Gallagher's hefty contract through a trade. In that regard, here is the proposed transaction:
"In Arizona:
Brendan Gallagher
2nd-round pick
To Montreal:
Future considerations"
Hughes would be paying a second-round pick to rid himself of Gallagher's $6.5 million contract for the next four seasons.
Honestly, we would not make this trade. Gallagher can be worth much more, especially with a strong and healthy start to the season.
There is a similar proposal circulating involving Mike Hoffman, and we would prefer the one involving Hoffman. Why?
Because Gallagher brings so much to the locker room and team culture, particularly for a young team going through a critical transition phase (unlike Hoffman, unfortunately).
Would you trade Gallagher for a 2nd-round pick? Would you trade Hoffman for a 2nd-round pick?
Personally, we are confident that if he desires, Kent Hughes could obtain something in return for Gallagher, even with his hefty contract, at the trade deadline (perhaps a 4th or 5th-round pick?).
The salary cap is about to increase, and he can truly assist a playoff-bound team. Imagine, for example, Gallagher with the Colorado Avalanche.
