The second off-season of Kent Hughes as general manager of the Canadiens is going to be quite interesting, as the team is expected to continue its rebuilding process. But according to some experts, the team should also consider the market of unrestricted free agents this summer, which includes several quality players.
However, the key for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton remains the upcoming draft, which will take place in Nashville in June with the Canadiens having a pick among the top ten. As we know, there is an 8.5% chance that the Habs will win the lottery, which would obviously be the best scenario. But in case this doesn't happen, Kent Hughes will step onto the stage with the seventh pick.
But if the Canadiens were interested in trading this pick, could we witness a scenario similar to last year, when Kent Hughes used his audacity to acquire
Kirby Dach?
Let's play a little game here, as proposed by Marco Normandin from Habsolumentfan.com. It's not a rumor! It's just a game to discuss and entertain.
If Chris Drury, the general manager of the New York Rangers, were to call Kent Hughes and ask for the Canadiens' first pick in exchange for a certain Alexis Lafrenière, would you do it?
It must be admitted that this is a rather tempting proposition. Even though the Quebec-born forward has yet to have his breakthrough with the Blue Shirts, we are talking about a player who still has an enormous potential and who, like Kirby Dach in Montreal, could finally find his game with a new team.
That being said, we are not talking about a real proposal or current speculation, but let's say it's an offer that Kent Hughes would undoubtedly consider.
