Connor McDavid criticized for alleged disrespect after game 7 loss to Panthers
The Edmonton Oilers' star forward, Connor McDavid, made an unexpected gesture last night after his defeat in the Stanley Cup final against the Panthers.
Personally, I have absolutely no problem with his gesture, but unfortunately, it has caused a lot of buzz today, with many criticizing him for not appearing on the ice to receive his 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy.
It's a big topic of discussion today.
Some people are going way too far, outright calling it a "lack of class," while others describe it more as a disappointment.
«Connor McDavid not showing up to collect the Conn Smythe: big disappointment as far as I'm concerned!
"Everyone who won it in a losing cause went to get it. Except him.
"By the way, I fully understand his disappointment. But there is respect for this trophy, which is not just any other trophy.
This is the danger of awarding the Conn Smythe to a player on the losing team. It's not like it's the first time this has happened»

Various opinions regarding Connor McDavid's decision not to collect his Conn Smythe trophy
Here is journalist Eric Engels' opinion.
«When Connor McDavid looks back on this night, he'll only regret one thing and it certainly won't be not returning to the ice to pose with the Conn Smythe.
That anyone was judging him for that directly after he took the biggest gut punch of his life is just ridiculous.»
- Eric Engels
It's unprecedented in the NHL:
In short, we understand McDavid for not going, as he was simply devastated.
We know how much he wants to win, we know how extremely important winning the Stanley Cup is for him, and we can't even imagine how disappointed he must have been last night.
I have absolutely no problem with his gesture/decision.
Let us obviously recall that last night, the Florida Panthers won Game 7 by a score of 2-1, becoming the 2024 Stanley Cup Champions, having finally survived a historic comeback by the Edmonton Oilers.
