Norman Flynn makes another controversial statement about the Montreal Canadiens
In recent years, Norman Flynn has made some rather surprising statements. We can remember when he declared on RDS that he would not hesitate to trade Nick Suzuki in order to acquire forward Wayne Simmonds. Let's just say that this statement has not aged well and fortunately, Suzuki is still a full-fledged member of the Canadiens. There had also been a similar statement regarding a trade involving Cole Caufield.
But the analyst has once again made a big revelation and as reported by David St-Jean of the Marqueur.com website, it is likely to create a stir over the next few months.
During his appearance on BPM Sports, Flynn declared that he could very well see the Canadiens fighting for a playoff spot as early as next season.
"The Canadiens can make the playoffs as early as next year. If the Kraken can make the playoffs this year, with the 10th best player from each team, tell me that the Canadiens won't be able to do it next year with the team they'll have."
Did he speak out of emotion or is it a prediction that could come true?
It must be said from the outset that the many injuries during the season did not help the situation and one wonders where the Canadiens could be if all the key elements had not visited the infirmary.
Another important point to mention is that the Kraken play in a much weaker division than the Canadiens, with the presence of the Bruins, Maple Leafs and Lightning. Not to mention the race for the two wildcard spots available for the playoffs.
It is still too early to speculate on what will happen to the Canadiens next season, but one thing is for sure, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton cannot afford to deviate from their rebuilding plan just to aim for the playoffs next year.
To get back to Norman Flynn's comments, it is logical to think that the Canadiens could perhaps fight for a playoff spot next season, but we must not skip steps either.
But I'll ask you the question anyway.
