Case surrounding Valeri Nichushkin: the NHL speaks out about the future of the Russian forward in the NHL
Valeri Nichushkin was at the heart of a massive controversy during the first round of the playoffs. The Russian forward missed his team's morning practice before a severely intoxicated woman was found in his hotel room. The Avalanche's medical staff had to call Seattle's emergency services because she was in a very alarming state.
Following this incident, Valeri Nichushkin deserted his team's entourage and never returned to the game. To this day, the 28-year-old forward has not commented on this worrying situation and is simply untraceable, possibly having returned home to Russia.
In addition, just a few days ago, disturbing images were leaked on social media as the police officers present at the scene released a video of their interaction with the young woman and the staff of the Colorado Avalanche.
This video seemed to convince NHL executives as they have just given an official verdict regarding Valeri Nichushkin's future in the NHL. Indeed, Bill Daly announced that the forward will be eligible to play in the 2023-2024 season and that no investigation will be put forward in this case.
Daly stated that there will be no NHL investigation into the incident involving Valeri Nichushkin as everything was handled appropriately by Colorado, so the forward will be eligible to play next season.
This is excellent news for the Avalanche who will therefore be able to count on the services of the Russian forward next season. Valeri Nichushkin was a key element of the team's success this year with a tally of 17 goals and 30 assists in 53 games. His contribution will be all the more important in 2023-2024 as Gabriel Landeskog could possibly miss the entire season.
