A very interesting ranking has just been revealed in the National Hockey League - and for Montreal Canadiens fans, it's worth a look.
As reported by Samuel Doiron from the site HABSolumentFan, a list of the slowest players in the NHL has been published.
You read that right.
We now have the technological tools to put together such a ranking.
The Ranking of the Slowest Players in the Entire National Hockey League
There are two surprises here.
First, a pleasant surprise for the Montreal Canadiens: absolutely no player from the Habs appears on this list of 50 players in total (25 ranked by overall speed, and 25 by sudden acceleration).
No, Patrik Laine is not on this list - but a certain Alex Ovechkin is.
By the way, the title of the original article refers to the "slowest players in the NHL," but after reviewing the list, it's clear they're really talking about the slowest forwards in the league.
Anyway, here it is.

We see that Patrik Maroon is (unsurprisingly) the slowest in both categories, and in both cases, he's closely followed by two big names.
Matthew Tkachuk is the second slowest forward in the NHL in terms of top speed, while the great Alex Ovechkin is second slowest in terms of acceleration. Wow.
Andrei Kuzmenko, Noel Acciari, David Perron, Dakota Joshua, and Gabriel Vilardi are other players who won't be winning any speed competitions.
A certain Connor Bedard also appears in 23rd position among the slowest players in the NHL.
And you - which name on this list surprises you the most?
