For those who didn't witness this last night, an absolutely disgusting scene occurred early during the 3rd game of the series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars.

It's probably one of the nastiest acts of the NHL season. Jamie Benn was the culprit as he delivered a violent cross check to the face of Mark Stone, who was laid out on the ice.
He was immediately ejected from the game, which gave a 5-minute power play to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Here are the video of the act in question:
After refusing to speak to the media yesterday, the Stars' captain decided to break his silence today, and he provided the most ridiculous possible explanation to justify his dangerous act from last night.
Jamie Benn just spoke to the media. Said he wished he wouldn't have fallen on Stone and used his stick «as a landing point.»

That's not how that play looked to me

Also said he has not spoken with Stone.

If you look at the scene again after hearing Benn's explanation, you will clearly see that he never fell as he mentions, he simply hit Stone's face with a cross-check while he was defenseless on the ice.
What a lack of respect from Benn who even took a night's time to think about what he could say, and instead of explaining himself by saying that he was sorry or that he had lost his cool, he foolishly served a false excuse to the media.
Very poor on the part of the Stars' leader who certainly cost his team the game!
