Indeed, a source told Daren Dreger not to jump the gun. Dubois is not yet a member of the Los Angeles Kings organization and patience should be advocated in this case.
It even seems that the Habs are still in the race, and Kent Hughes is currently waiting for the final outcome of the case with the Kings. The Montreal GM could very well come back strong if the Los Angeles plan should fail.
Things change quickly in the world of hockey and this case could once again prove it. The fact that an agreement for a contract extension is taking so long shows that the Dubois camp is still hesitant to agree long term with the Kings. One has to wonder if the trade agreement would still hold between the two teams without a long-term contract with the main interested party.
The problem for Kent Hughes, if the transaction between the Jets and the Kings was to abort, would be to find common ground with Kevin Cheveldayoff. The Habs do not have what Winnipeg is looking for and it would be surprising if only Josh Anderson were sufficient. It would also be surprising if Kent Hughes were to strip down by sending one of his promising young prospects to Winnipeg.
This case is definitely not over and there is still a slim 'hope for the Habs. Club fans, however, don't get your hopes up too much...
