Scene that puts Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League in an awkward position: Kevin Weekes has just declined all comments

Before the Chicago Blackhawks were even announced as the winners of the lottery yesterday, a mini controversy arose during the announcement of the selection ranks.

Indeed, host Kevin Weekes outright announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets had lost the lottery, even before it was revealed by Bill Daly.

Many immediately thought that it was rigged [something we don't believe], and there were numerous comments on social media. Nevertheless, this slip-up is bound to stir up some chatter.

On this topic, The Athletic tried to get comments from Weekes and the NHL, who both declined the invitation. As mentioned by Aaron Portzline, this mistake seems to come from the production team and not the host.

"NHL and broadcaster Kevin Weekes both declined to comment when reached by The Athletic for comment/explanation about the early on-air revelation that #CBJ were picking No. 3 ahead of deputy commish Bill Daly flipping the placard.

Seems a production error led to Weekes' flub."
