Massive statement regarding Matvei Michkov and Nathan MacKinnon
The name that is on everyone's lips among Habs fans these days is undoubtedly that of the young Russian prospect, Matvei Michkov. However, he is not universally accepted in the hockey world, not because of his talent, which is definitely there, but because of the uncertainty surrounding him.
To show how good the young man is, prospect expert Kyle Woodlief, who is a former NHL scout and current head of Red Line Report, conducted a nice exercise. He analyzed the last 13 NHL drafts to see where he would rank. The result is striking:"If I go back in time, in the last 13 drafts, he would be first overall in at least 11 of them, except for those of McDavid and Bedard." - Kyle Woodlief
As our colleague Nicolas Desrosiers from the site LetsGoHabs reminds us, according to Woodlief, Michkov would have only been surpassed by McDavid and Bedard during this period. He would therefore have been superior to Nathan MacKinnon in 2013 and Auston Matthews in 2016.
Pretty impressive!
The one who will have the chance to select him will definitely not be in a bad position if we believe Woodlief's words.
"We're not talking about a consolation prize here." - Kyle Woodlief
