Major development regarding the Montreal Canadiens' selection at the upcoming draft

As Montreal Canadiens fans turn their attention towards the 2023 NHL Draft, we have just received some interesting information.

It concerns the phenomenon Matvei Michkov, the only prospect available in the June draft who is as talented as Connor Bedard, and it also concerns his possible availability at the Canadiens' draft pick.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, who are almost certain to draft before the Habs, are among the teams that will NOT be drafting Michkov.

According to the excellent Aaron Portzline, who is well connected in Columbus, the Blue Jackets would obviously draft Bedard, Adam Fantilli and Leo Carlsson before Michkov, but where it becomes interesting is that they would also draft Will Smith ahead of Michkov.


Yes, you read that right, the Jackets would draft Will Smith ahead of Matvei Michkov.

You can imagine that this could have a major impact on Michkov's availability at the 5th or 6th overall pick for Kent Hughes and the Habs (if that is indeed their selection position).
