Home run for the Canadiens at the draft? An expert suggests a scenario where Kent Hughes adds two elite players, including one you're very familiar with

We are now less than ten days away from the famous NHL lottery, which will take place on May 8th.

It is evident that many Canadiens fans will be tuning in to find out at which position the team will be drafting in the first round, and even though the chances of the Canadiens winning the lottery are quite slim, it remains that Kent Hughes will have a high first-round pick.

In the worst-case scenario, the Canadiens could drop to the seventh position, but the chances of the team ending up with the fifth selection are the most probable at 68.5%, and let's try to go with that assumption.

Several high-quality prospects will still be available, but there is a dream scenario for Canadiens fans, as reported by Nicolas Desrosiers from Marqueur.com..

Here is the dream scenario for Canadiens fans:

1 - Draft Matvei Michkov at the 5th position if he is available.

2 - Trade Florida's 1st round pick and + to Winnipeg for Pierre-Luc Dubois + a long-term deal worth around $8 million annually.

Wow! We are talking about two elite players here (because yes, Michkov will become an elite player). He is breaking all records currently, and some even believe he is as talented as Connor Bedard.

I wouldn't go that far, but it speaks volumes.

We are talking about the addition of two extremely important elements for the future of the organization. And if this scenario were to happen, it would be a real home run for Kent Hughes.

It has been known for a long time that Pierre-Luc Dubois has a good chance of coming to Montreal, and as for Matvei Michkov, some Canadiens scouts are firmly intent on proposing this selection to the management.

However, it is highly likely that he will remain in Russia for a few more years, but the immediate arrival of Dubois would make the Canadiens a much better team, and Michkov's absence would be much easier to swallow.

And when he is ready to make the jump to the NHL, the Canadiens could be a very competitive team, and his impact could be the same as Kirill Kaprizov's was when he joined the Minnesota Wild.

Even though this is just a proposed scenario, it still offers some dream potential, as Kent Hughes would acquire two very talented players, and let's just say that the team's rebuilding process could accelerate as early as next season.
