A KHL team is officially planning the arrival of Alex Ovechkin
We have known for years that Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is considering ending his career in his home country. The idea has been in the air, but nothing concrete had happened until now, as his KHL team has admitted that they are already planning his return.
Dynamo Moscow General Manager Anatoly Kharchuk provided some hints on the ongoing plans and how they eagerly await Ovechkin's return during an interview with Match TV:
"So, we are preparing for it right now. Dynamo has this age potential now, which will peak when Sasha's NHL contract expires. I want him to have decent partners at that time."
Ovechkin is still under contract with the Capitals until 2025-26. He will be 41 years old at the end of his NHL contract, but there is a strong feeling that he will still have a lot left to play for his local club.
To this date, Ovi is 72 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's record. If he stays healthy, Ovechkin could break the record in the coming seasons and may choose to return home as soon as he can.
With the possibility of Ovechkin's return to Russia, fans of Dynamo Moscow are undoubtedly excited, while NHL followers will keep a close eye on his progress as he inches closer to Gretzky's legendary record. Regardless of when he decides to return to his home country, Ovechkin's impact on the NHL will not be forgotten.
