On that note, we just learned that, to reach such a decision, Patrick Roy was indeed summoned for a major meeting by Mathieu Darche himself, held in Montreal.
A five-hour meeting in Montreal that changed everything for Patrick Roy
That's exactly what Mathieu Darche revealed.
He wanted to take the time to truly get to know Patrick Roy before making his decision, and clearly, he was satisfied with the meeting with the former number 33.
"Yes, I went to meet him in Montreal; I spent a good five hours with Patrick, because it's true that I didn't know him before this year.
After the games, we'd see each other and shake hands, Francophones eventually end up greeting each other, we know each other," he said. From the TVA Sports article
"Patrick's a winner, and I think we have great chemistry.
I'm excited to work with him next year. [...] He is the best solution to be head coach of the New York Islanders right now."
I believe it's the right decision, and I'm convinced the Islanders franchise is in very good hands with Mathieu Darche and Patrick Roy.
It will be very interesting to see what's next for them, and what strategy they'll use.
Will they go for a full rebuild? A so-called "reset"?
The answer will come in the next few months.
