New Announcement From the Islanders Regarding Patrick Roy's Future Following Lamoriello's Firing

It was a big day for the New York Islanders organization yesterday. General manager Lou Lamoriello was fired in the past few hours, and that naturally raised many questions about head coach Patrick Roy.
And in the official statement, the Islanders refused to confirm that Patrick Roy would be back next year or that he wouldn't also be let go.
That doesn't mean it will happen, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
A new announcement involving Patrick Roy
Here's what the Islanders had to say about Roy's future behind the bench (following Lamoriello's dismissal):
"Regarding head coach Patrick Roy:
He and the hockey operations team will meet with the new general manager once appointed.
We will then see how things progress."

In short, the decision will be up to the new GM, and it's disappointing to see that Roy doesn't have more solid backing from the organization.
The door is clearly open for him to possibly be fired.
Personally, I believe Roy did an excellent job with the team he had, especially considering the many injuries that hit the roster.
The fact that the Islanders came close to making the NHL playoffs is nearly miraculous.
New York (Islanders) finished the 2024-25 season 9 points behind the Montreal Canadiens and a playoff spot, with a record of 35 wins, 35 losses, and 12 overtime losses.
Patrick Roy's squad stayed in the race for a long time and remained a thorn in the Canadiens' side (as you know well).
