Savard answered several questions.
He was very honest. Notably, he once again reiterated his interest in staying around the Canadiens organization, possibly in a "Paul Byron-type" role, and spoke about the reasons that led to his retirement.
The veteran specifically explained that he truly wanted to stay in Montreal and wasn't necessarily looking to sign elsewhere as a depth defenseman or as a seventh defenseman.
But that's not what caught my attention.
What really caught my attention is the following.
He's truly incredible! What a teammate!
"[Savard] states that if a young player had pushed him out of the lineup this year, he would have been open to giving up his spot.
In a world where Logan Mailloux had truly been too good to stay in Laval, for example, Savard would have been willing to put the team's interests ahead of his own."

That's exactly why he's so appreciated in the locker room.
We can also think back to the long stretch where Arber Xhekaj was scratched from the lineup at the end of the season and at the beginning of the playoffs, while David Savard remained in the lineup.
Savard would have been ready to give up his spot to Arber Xhekaj, if that's what Martin St-Louis had wanted!
That's an extremely impressive attitude.
