The word was already circulating last month, but it is now official.

Former head coach of Arizona State University, Albie O'Connell, is back with the Montreal Canadiens organization and is now our new head scout for players located in North America.

"Another Boston connection in the Canadiens hockey ops department: Albie O'Connell is listed as Chief North American scout. He scouted previously for the Canadiens in 22-23, but he's primarily been a coach in the NCAA at Northeastern, Harvard, and Boston University.»

- Andrew Zadarnowski

This is a significant position and a notable hire.

Albie O'Connell is a Familiar Face at the Canadiens and is Back with the Organization

He was indeed a scout for the Montreal Canadiens in 2022-2023, after spending eight years in the prestigious Boston University program.

He, therefore, knows the NCAA extremely well.

The rumor that circulated a month ago has now been confirmed.

We learned then that O'Connell had suddenly left his position as head coach at Arizona State to pursue a great opportunity in the NHL.

This opportunity was indeed with the Montreal Canadiens, as Arpon Basu indicated:

Welcome back to Mr. O'Connell within the CH organization.

Will this positively affect the ranking of American players for the upcoming draft sessions? It is certainly possible.
