Terrible Rumours Swirl Around Newly Acquired Player in Carey Price Trade, Future in Doubt
The excellent Andrew Zadarnowski has just reported some very sad news concerning the Montreal Canadiens' new 22-year-old acquisition.
Let's recall that just minutes ago, the Habs announced the acquisition of defenseman Gannon Laroque from the San Jose Sharks, notably in exchange for Carey Price.
In short, as the headline suggests, we now better understand why the Sharks sent young Laroque to Montreal.
He recently received terrible news, and his career might possibly be over.
He may never play another hockey game in his life, which is obviously extremely sad for a young man with such passion who was on the verge of realizing his dream.
Gannon Laroque's career may be over: the Montreal Canadiens' new acquisition will probably never play hockey again
This is really unfortunate..
"Gannon Laroque has been dealing with major injury issues since turning pro, including double hip surgery in 2022 and missing all of 2024-25. He might never play again."

"Gannon Laroque has had a rough go on the health side over the past few years.
Two hip surgeries in the past, and missed all of last year. Played just 22 games over the past three years (and had a COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, too)" - Steven Ellis

Indeed, when looking at his record, it's clear that Laroque didn't play at all last season.
Let's hope for a small miracle, and hope he can return to the game against all odds, but unfortunately, everything points to the fact that the Habs traded one player who will never play hockey again.. for another player who will never play hockey again.
