Amy Martin Makes History Tonight at the Bell Centre During the Canadiens vs. Jets Prospect Game
"Amy Martin is refereeing tonight's rookie game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets.
We often see the Manitoban on the international women's stage and in the PWHL."
- Kenzie Lalonde, TSN
Congratulations to Amy Martin!
I sincerely hope we'll see more women like Amy Martin in the coming years - and especially that this can also happen in regular season games.
"In addition to former Canadiens prospect Hayden Verbeek, PWHL referee Amy Martin is the other referee for tonight's Winnipeg-Montreal game. She has also taken part in several IIHF tournaments."
- Jared Book
At the time of writing,
Florian Xhekaj and
Oliver Kapanen have been the only goal scorers for the Montreal Canadiens rookies (both on brilliant passes from young Ivan Demidov).
Florian Xhekaj, 21 years old, was last listed at 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, but that clearly seems to have changed.
Last season with the Laval Rocket, he recorded 35 points in 69 games, including an impressive 24 goals in his rookie season in the NHL.
He also racked up 175 penalty minutes (in 69 games).
Oliver Kapanen, 22 years old, has collected 2 points in 18 NHL games, as well as 6 points in 11 playoff games with the Laval Rocket.
