At the time of writing, we still don't know when forward Patrik Laine will be able to return to play with the Montreal Canadiens.

It could be as soon as tonight, or it could be several days from now.

The last time Laine had to be absent due to flu-like symptoms, he missed nearly two weeks of activity.

That being said, following yesterday's announcement regarding Laine, RDS journalist Luc Gélinas made an interesting statement.

Luc Gélinas speaks out on the real reason behind Patrik Laine's absence

Without wanting to start a rumor, the RDS journalist is still questioning the true reason behind Laine's strange absence.

"Yes, same kind of strange flu that Dadonov had two years ago.

This is not a rumor, it's a question I'm asking myself.

I'm very perplexed, and I wonder if it's really true that flu symptoms have prevented him from skating for four days?"

- Luc Gélinas, RDS

He also spoke about it last night on television.

For some, Gélinas is simply saying out loud what many are thinking quietly.

I think he is right to question the real reason for Laine's absence because it is quite unusual to see a player miss 15 DAYS, and possibly more, within a few weeks due to flu-like symptoms.

Let's just hope it's nothing too serious for Patrik Laine.

If he returns to play tonight, it would be great news and would put the matter to rest, but at this point, that seems unlikely.

A situation to watch closely.
