NHL Issues Official Statement and Reaches Final Verdict on the Canadiens' First Goal
There was some confusion in the NHL last night regarding the first goal scored by the Montreal Canadiens, which was credited to Patrik Laine.
It's rare that this happens.
Initially, the goal was obviously awarded to Patrik Laine, with assists given to Nick Suzuki and Lane Hutson.
Ultimately, the NHL changed its ruling to give an assist to Cole Caufield (and remove the assist from Lane Hutson).
Well, today, the NHL has once again changed its decision, and this time we have a final and official verdict.
Lane Hutson did indeed get his assist on the goal scored by Patrik Laine
The NHL even issued a nice official statement to confirm this.
«Lane Hutson earned an assist and set the longest point streak by a rookie defenseman in Montreal Canadiens history.
He broke the tie with Glen Harmon (6 GP in 1942-43) and Chris Chelios (6 GP in 1984-85; 2x).
- Official statement from the National Hockey League
We are, therefore, very happy for Lane, who now has 19 points (19 assists) in 28 games this season.
Let's remind everyone that he is only twenty years old and on track for a historic season with 52 points.
He is at the top of the Calder Trophy race, awarded to the NHL's Rookie of the Year, along with young talents Matvei Michkov and Macklin Celebrini.
Who do you think will receive this individual honor?
